Elena a researcher who over the last decade has focused on modelling ocean hydrodynamics and biogeochemistry. Her interests include impacts of abiotic and biotic stressors on various marine ecosystems both at local and global scales. For instance, she has studied the influence of hydrodynamics on the coastal ocean, impacts of anthropogenic and climate change on biogeochemical processes and the related potential trophic shifts in plankton and development of invasive jellyfish species. Elena has also studied chemical contamination of the marine food webs and bioaccumulation processes.
