James Orr is a Research Director at CEA with 30 years of experience in ocean biogeochemical modeling. He received his Ph.D in Chemical Oceanography in 1988 from Texas A&M University and worked at Princeton University before joining the LSCE in 1992. He is an expert on the ocean carbon cycle, ocean acidification, and ocean modeling. He leads the research and engineering group at LSCE responsible for developing and improving HPC implementations of the IPSL Earth System Model. He was Chair of the Ocean Carbon Cycle Model Intercomparison Project (OCMIP) for 20 years before becoming co-chair of the Ocean Model Intercomparison Project (OMIP) under the current CMIP6 umbrella. Likewise he is Chair of the SOLAS-IMBER Working Group on Ocean Acidification (SIOA). He has led multiple research projects at the national, European, and international levels and has contributed to more than 100 scientific publications concerning ocean biogeochemistry.
